Hailey Gaines, who starred for the Falcons in 2018 and served as graduate assistant coach in 2019, is now in her second full year as the lead assistant for head coach Abbie Wright.
Gaines came to SPU in 2018 with one year of eligibility after completing her undergrad major in psychology and minor in marketing at Concordia Irvine. At Seattle Pacific, she earned her master's degree in industrial organizational psychology.
She earned the starting role at opposite and delivered in a big way. In her very first match, she delivered a career-high seven service aces against Fresno Pacific. Later, in a span of four matches, she had three career highs for kills: 15 at Northwest Nazarene, 18 at Central Washington, and 19 at home against Alaska Anchorage.
Gaines hit a team-leading .210 for the season with 271 kills, 82 total blocks, 83 digs, and 29 aces. She was voted as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Newcomer of the Year.
