    Volleyball Assistant Coach

Haley Doerfler, who starred at Hawaii Pacific University, is in her first year as the lead assistant coach for Seattle Pacific. Doerfler joined the Falcons on July 18, 2019

The announcement of Doerfler’s hiring was made by Falcons head coach Abbie Wright.

Doerfler comes to SPU after spending the 2018 season as an assistant at North Alabama, which began a four-year transition from Division II to Division I last fall. Prior to that, she coached at Durham University in England, working with both the indoor and the sand volleyball programs.

She was born in Waterloo, Iowa, before eventually moving to the southwest Washington city of Battle Ground, where she was an All-State player for Prairie High School.

“I love the Pacific Northwest – it’s a phenomenal place to live,” said Doerfler, who said SPU was one of the schools she considered attending as an undergrad before ultimately landing at Hawaii Pacific. “The chance to be back at SPU in a Christian environment with a competitive team and a coach who knows the game and has a track record of working with young women is exciting.”

A middle blocker during her playing days, she racked up 394 blocks during her four seasons at HPU, leading the team in three of those seasons. She also slammed 765 kills, with 208 of those as a senior in 2014.  During her senior year in 2014, she had 117 blocks 208 kills.

As a junior, Doerfler totaled 117 blocks and hit .309, earning All-Pacific West Conference third team honors. She was honorable mention All-Pac West as a sophomore and again as a senior.

Doerfler worked with middles and opposites at North Alabama. But she said her work at summer camps with other coaching mentors “has helped broaden my range of expertise.”
