SALEM, Ore. – Jordan Wolfe ran to a 26th-place finish, leading the Seattle Pacific men to sixth place on Saturday morning at the 37th annual Charles Bowles Invitational cross country meet.

Falcons junior Wolfe (Bend, Ore.) completed the 8-kilometer course that started in Bush's Pasture Park and finished in McCulloch Stadium on the Willamette University campus in 25 minutes, 24.30 seconds,

It is the second time this season that Wolfe has been the first Falcon across the finish line. He won the Apple Ridge Run Invitational in Yakima on Sept. 10.

The Falcons checked in with 160 points, well ahead of last season when they were 16th with 488 points.

“I was really pleased with the way both the men's and women's teams raced,” SPU head coach Erika Daligcon said. “They really wanted to get in there and see what they could do on a fast course. I feel like they came away with positive feedback.”

SPU's runners bounced back nicely from what many of them regarded as an off performance at last week's Erik Anderson/Runner's Soul NCAA pre-regional meet in Spokane, when the gap among the top five was a full 60 seconds over 8 kilometers. On Saturday for the same distance, it was back down to 42 seconds.

Senior Jacob Wahlenmaier (Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) was close behind Wolfe, placing 34th in 25:29.40. Right behind him was Seth Pierson (Cashmere, Wash./Cashmere HS) at 38th in 25:33.40.

Junior AJ Baker (Au Gres, Mich.) was 49th in 25:51.56, and freshman Turner Wiley (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah HS) completed the scoring in 56th with a time of 26:06.33.

“It was nice to see a number of them running in the 25s again,” Daligcon said. “Jordan is still not feeling all that great, but he came through strong. For Seth, that was his best race by far. He's getting more race-fit.”

Chico State, the top-ranked NCAA West Region Division II team, tied with D-1 member Portland for first place on Saturday with 37 points, but Chico earned the title on the basis of the sixth-runner tiebreaker. (The Wildcats' No. 6 was 14th; Portland's was 18th.)

Northwest Nazarene of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference took fourth with 129 points. Central Washington was 10th with 318.

Runners from the three NCAA division competed in the same race.
