Cavell is District Academic Honoree

SPU guard boasts a 3.84 GPA in graduate school

SEATTLE – His hard work on the court put him in the school record book. More importantly, his diligent work with textbooks earned Harry Cavell a prestigious scholastic accolade.

The Seattle Pacific graduate student was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 men's basketball team for NCAA Division II student-athletes that was announced Thursday.

Cavell was among a list of five players recognized for their excellence both in the classroom and on the court from the region that covers the entire West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii. Every district honoree will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot with first-, second- and third-team selections scheduled for announcement later this month.

He makes his first appearance on the district academic team, boasting a 3.84 grade point average over his first year of graduate school. Cavell is pursuing a master's in data analytics after receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration last spring. He is a three-time member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-academic team.

HARRY CAVELL DUNK (Feb. 27, 2021)

The Falcons 6-foot-6 guard was honored as the 2020 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a second-team all-league selection after averaging 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

While the conference did not issue postseason awards in 2021, Cavell certainly would have been included as his averages improved to 16.7 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds. He was voted the GNAC Player of the Week on February 1.

Early this season, Cavell became the 11th player in Seattle Pacific history to collect both 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. He currently ranks 22nd among the program's all-time scoring leaders with 1,151 points and is No. 16 in rebounds with 523.
