Falcons Host Two Home Games This Weekend

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team returns home to Royal Brougham Pavilion to host Alaska Anchorage on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

"We are happy to return to our home court as we continue conference play," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "I thought we learned a lot this past weekend on the road. Our goal is to keep getting better every day. This league shows us year in, and year out that you must keep battling each week. Excited for what's in front of us and the opportunity we have."
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons traveled east for road games against Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene. SPU played both teams tough but dropped both games.
 
Jaxon Nap led the Falcons with 19 points on an efficient 75 percent from the field against the Wildcats. He went 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Nap secured nine rebounds. Trace Evans had 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting with three rebounds and a team-high three assists. Henry Sandberg scored eight points while going 3-for-4 from the field. He added three rebounds and an assist to his stat line.
 
Owen Moriarty led Falcons against the Nighthawks with 18 points on 5-for-11 shooting. He was perfect from the free throw line, sinking all eight of his attempts. It was the eighth time this season that Moriarty has made every free throw he's attempted in a game.
 
Mason Landdeck and Nap poured in eight points each. Like Moriarty, Landdeck shot it well from the free throw line. He went 4-for-4 against the Nighthawks. Nap added a team-high eight rebounds to go with his eight pointsSandberg had a strong night on the glass, grabbing a single-game career-best seven rebounds.
 
GETTING TO THE PAINT
The Falcons have found their offensive identity by getting shots close to the basket. They rank third in the GNAC in shooting percentage and enter the weekend shooting 47.7 percent from the field. Evans and Nap have led the group in shooting percentage. Evans has hit 65.7 percent of his attempts and ranks second in the conference. He's scoring 13.7 points per game. Nap ranks eighth in the GNAC and shoots 53.9 percent from the field. He's averaging 10.9 points per game.
 
SINKING HIS FREE THROWS
Moriarty leads the Falcons in scoring this season with 15.9 points per game. He ranks eighth in the GNAC in scoring. His best work is coming at the free throw line. Moriarty is shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line and is third-best in the conference. He's missed just 10 free throws while taking 80 this season. Moriarty has the fourth most attempts from the foul line this year in the GNAC.
 
A REBOUNDING MACHINE
Nap continues to be one of the best rebounders in the country. He's averaging 9.5 rebounds per game and has 148 defensive rebounds this season. Nap is tied for first in the GNAC in rebounding. His 183 total rebounds rank 10th in the country while his average is 20th best in the nation.
 
ABOUT ALASKA ANCHORAGE
The Seawolves tied Saint Martin's for fourth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll. UAA peaked in the postseason last year, upsetting Saint Martin's in the opening round and Northwest Nazarene in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament. Despite the loss to CWU in the championship game, the previous wins were enough to earn the Seawolves a spot in the NCAA West Region Championships where their strong season concluded with a 52-49 loss to Cal State San BernardinoHead Coach Rusty Osborne is in his 20th season and is the GNAC's all-time winningest coach with 358 victories. Among UAA's key returners are senior Dillon Barrientos (11.1 ppg), and Bishop Tosi (13.0 ppg).
 
ABOUT ALASKA FAIRBANKS
The Nanooks were slotted in 10th in the GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Nanooks finished eighth in last year's GNAC standings, going 8-18 overall and 6-12 in conference games. Frank Ostanik, who coached the Nanooks from 2005-07 and went 55-32 (.632), is back in charge for his second stint leading the team this season. The Nanooks have played well to start 2024-25. They enter the weekend with a 9-7 record and are 5-2 in conference play.
