PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon, with the Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team earning 10 awards, led by
Victor Cabanas as GNAC Freshman of the Year, and
Kevin Sakuda being named the GNAC Coach of the Year.
In 2025, head coach
Kevin Sakuda led the Falcons to their most successful season since 2021. The team won 10 or more games for the first time since 2021, when they went 12-4-2. It's the 43rd time in program history that the Falcons have won 10 or more games in a season.
SPU's 2025 season featured a nine-match unbeaten streak from Sept 6 through Oct. 11. The Falcons were ranked as high as 12th in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll. The Falcons enter the postseason with the most goals scored of any team in the GNAC tournament, and are tied for the fewest goals allowed in the GNAC this season.
The Falcons are GNAC Co-Champions for the first time since they won it outright in 2021. It's the fifth regular-season GNAC title in program history. Five regular-season GNAC Championships are the third-most in the conference behind Simon Fraser's eight and Seattle U's six. It's the second regular-season GNAC title the Falcons have won under coach
Sakuda.
Cabanas made an immediate impact when he joined the Falcons for the 2025 season. He appeared in and started 16 matches for SPU, playing a full 90 minutes in 14 consecutive matches since Sept. 18. He's been a key piece to an SPU defense that is tied for the fewest goals allowed this season with 17. Cabanas has been named the GNAC Freshman of the Year and is a Second Team All-GNAC selection.
Rafael Lucio established himself as an offensive threat throughout the 2025 season for SPU. He led the GNAC in shots on goal with 1.24 per match. Lucio scored four goals, dished out two assists, and finished the regular season with 10 points for the Falcons. Lucio was rewarded with a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection.
Orlando Erazo joins Lucio as a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection. Erazo appeared in 14 matches and made 11 starts for the Falcons. Erazo leads SPU with six goals this season, three of which were game-winners for the Falcons. He's tied for the most game-winners in the GNAC in 2025. Erazo was a Second Team All-GNAC selection a season ago and has played his way to a First Team All-GNAC nod this season.
Connor Tollan had a tremendous season for the Falcons in 2025. He appeared in 17 matches and made 15 starts for the Falcons. Tollan scored three goals, had two assists, and finished the regular season with eight points. He scored the game-winning goal at Chico State on Sept. 6. Tollan earned Honorable Mention in 2023 and is now a two-time First Team All-GNAC selection.
Brian Lanier has been one of the best goalkeepers in the conference in 2025. He's played every minute of the season between the posts for the Falcons, and touts an 11-3-4 record with three shutouts this season. Lanier ranks second in the GNAC goals against average with .951 per game. He's appeared in nine more games than the league's leader. Lanier has allowed 17 goals this season and owns a save percentage of .776. Now, he's a First Team All-GNAC selection for the Falcons.
Jackson Goode started all 18 matches for the Falcons in 2025 and had his best goal-scoring season for SPU. He found the back of the net three times, two of which came in a 3-1 victory over Simon Fraser on Oct. 23. That performance led to Goode's first GNAC Defensive Player of the Week award. Goode has been recognized as a Second Team All-GNAC selection.
Diego Pena-Salgado and
Kasey Toevs have been named GNAC Honorable Mentions. Pena-Salgado appeared in 12 matches, making six starts for SPU. He's scored a goal, had an assist, and finished the regular season with three points. Pena-Salgado was a GNAC Honorable Mention in 2023 and a Second Team All-GNAC selection a season ago.
In his first year with the Falcons, Toevs appeared in 15 matches while making 13 starts. He scored goals in back-to-back games against Dallas Baptist and St. Edwards at the end of September.
The Falcons enter the inaugural GNAC Men's Soccer Championships as the No. 2 seed and will play Western Washington on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11:00 a.m. for the chance to play Western Oregon in the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11:00 a.m.
