Falcons Lock In on Southern Colorado Classic

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's golf team is set for the Southern Colorado Classic on Sunday and Monday in Pueblo, Colorado at the Walking Stick Golf Resort.

QUOTABLE
"We're looking forward to putting together a pair of strong days when it comes to our mental game," head coach Tyler Copp said. "That will continue to be an area of emphasis moving forward. We faced some surprises with the wind and firm conditions in Arizona and we know that Walking Stick Golf Course will do the same. We are close to breaking through, and I'm expecting the depth in our lineup to deliver."

THE COURSE
Walking Stick Golf Course is one of Pueblo's pre-eminent public golf facilities and the leading major tournament venue in Pueblo. The golf course provides our guests with a unique opportunity to play Southern Colorado's most famous layouts in a serene environment on outstandingly presented playing surfaces.

THE WEATHER
Forecasts feature sunshine and warm temperatures for the Falcons. Sunday's high is predicted to be 64 degrees with intervals of clouds and sunshine. It's scheduled to warm up on Monday, with the daytime high set for 76 degrees. Wind may be a factor on both days, with a breeze of 10 to 20 miles per hour predicted for both days.

A SENSATIONAL SOLO PERFORMANCE
Zoe Garcia set another new program record at the SMSU Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. with a third-place finish, marking the best individual finish for the Falcons in a tournament.

Garcia had a spectacular performance during last Monday's opening round of the tournament. She finished with a 75 after lighting up the back nine. Garcia's final nine holes featured three birdies, all on par fours. Garcia's score was tied for the second-best individual performance from round one.  She was one stroke behind Mesa CC's Kasey Reichard for the individual lead after 18 holes.

Conditions during round two weren't as kind as round one. Wind affected players throughout Tuesday's round. Still, Garcia found spots to take advantage of on the course. She birdied the 145-yard par three, fourth hole. She earned another birdie on the 14th hole, a short par four. Garcia finished the second round with an 82. She finished five strokes back from the top of the individual leaderboard.

A COMPETITIVE TEAM EFFORT
Garcia led the Falcons with a strong first round performance at the SMSU Classic. The Falcons were two strokes back of second place at the end of round one. The Falcons battled the course as well as they could but finished the tournament in seventh place.

HELPING THE TEAM AT THE SMSU CLASSIC
Anika Schau played as SPU's no. 3 during the SMSU Classic. She turned in the second-best scores on the team. Her first round 82 was highlighted by a birdie on the 354-yard 16th hole par four. She shot an 84 in round two, powered by six pars throughout the round.

Brigitte Fenton opened Monday's round with a birdie on the first hole. Fenton continued to play solid golf throughout the front nine. She finished the first half of the course with a 39. She was the only Falcon to shoot in the 30's on the front nine in round one. Fenton finished her opening round with an 82 and shot an 87 in round two.
