SEATTLE – College Sports Communicators announced its Academic All-District award winners on Tuesday morning, with Seattle Pacific's
Trace Evans,
Owen Moriarty,
Jaxon Nap, and
Hunter Beirne earning recognition.
"Congratulations to these three student-athletes of ours," Head Coach
Keffrey Fazio said. "Each of these guys truly represents what we do here at Seattle Pacific University. They deserve all the recognition they garner."
Evans appeared in 29 games for the Falcons. He averaged 10.9 points per game while shooting 61.1 percent from the field. Evans ranked second in the GNAC in field goal percentage. Along with his efficient shooting, Evans grabbed 4.9 rebounds per game. He was named Second Team All-GNAC and made the GNAC All-Academic team.
"Trace is a tremendous student-athlete with a work ethic second to none," Fazio said. "We are very proud of his efforts on and off the floor throughout his career."
Moriarty appeared in and started 32 games for the Falcons. He led the team in scoring by averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. Moriarty was excellent from the free throw line, sinking 84.5 percent of his free throw attempts. He added 3.8 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per game to his scoring output for the Falcons.
Moriarty was a preseason All-GNAC selection and made GNAC Honorable Mention. He was a key piece to the Falcons GNAC Tournament run and was selected to the GNAC All-Tournament team. Moriarty earned GNAC All-Academic honors and is now a CSC Academic All-District team member.
"Owen is one of our leaders in our program," Fazio said. "When your leaders are at the top of the charts both statistically and in the classroom, you must feel pretty good about your program. We certainly do. I am very proud of Owen and all that he has accomplished this year."
Nap's first year with the Falcons was successful. He appeared in and started 33 games for the Falcons and averaged a double-double. Nap scored 11.6 points per game while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. He was one of the best rebounders in the country, averaging 10 boards per game. Nap's season total of 330 rebounds was the second most rebounds in a single season in program history. Nap entered the year as a preseason All-GNAC selection. He lived up to the hype, earning First Team All-GNAC honors and was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team.
"Jaxon has been nothing but special since he stepped on campus," Fazio said. "He's a team-first guy and an exceptional talent. His efforts in their classroom are no surprise to us, as he takes his studies very seriously, and whenever he chooses to stop playing basketball, he will be very successful in the professional world."
Beirne earned her second straight Academic All-District honor. That comes on the heels of being named to the GNAC All-Academic team for the fourth year in a row, the first Falcon ever to collect four such awards. A graduate student completing her master of arts in teaching, Beirne sports a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. She also had a 3.90 GPA as an undergraduate double major in business / economics / philosophy, and government / political science.
On the court, the 5-foot-7 point guard had by far her best season. She led SPU in scoring at 14.4 points per game on .433 shooting from the field, and in assists at 3.8 per game, ranking among the conference's top 10 in both categories (No. 8 in scoring and No. 7 in playmaking). Both of those averages were career bests. Her 117 assists for the season made her the first Falcon in triple digits since 2014-15.
