Falcons Compete at UCO Invite this Weekend

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's rowing team travels to Edmond, Okla. for the University of Central Oklahoma Invite this Friday and Saturday on the Oklahoma River.

QUOTABLE
"This is the first travel regatta of the season and the first time since 2022 that we've gone to Oklahoma for competition," head coach Caitlin McClain said. "While traveling can have challenges, I think the novelty and energy of a road trip brings out a new level of focus and urgency in the athletes.  It's good to practice our travel routines this early in the season, and this will be a great opportunity since we'll be seeing teams from all three DII regions."

"Unfortunately, the weather forecast has high winds so the race schedule has already changed from three rounds of racing on Saturday to two on Friday afternoon and one the next morning," McClain said. "It's good to know that now, but we have to stay adaptable and calm in the event more changes occur and to handle challenging conditions on the race course."

"Overall, this weekend will be another key test of our speed and an important cross-regional data point for potential NCAA qualification," McClain said. "We need to establish ourselves as ahead of or very close to the Embry Riddle from the South and Thomas Jefferson from the East while continuing to gain speed relative to the Humboldt and Central Oklahoma in the West. We'll need to race gritty while staying relaxed in potentially rough conditions.  We are ready to bring our best and strive for more this weekend."

CRCA POCOCK PRESEASON COACHES POLL
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced its week three national poll. The Falcons were ranked fourth in the country. Cal Poly Humboldt and Western Washington ranked second and third respectively. The Falcons are ahead of this weekend's host Bronchos who landed in fifth-place.
