SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's rowing team took part in the Cascade Cup and Windermere Cup on Friday evening and Saturday morning, representing the Falcons at Seattle's celebration of the opening day of boating season.
FROM THE COACH
"I love Windermere," head coach
Kenzie Waltar said. "The team loves Windermere. It's just the city of Seattle loves Windermere. It's a special opportunity to coach a team in this iconic race. I absolutely loved getting to tell them about the experience, and for the varsity members to tell the underclassmen who would never race it when we were cut, just like, 'Hey, guys, you're going to face this wall of sound, and there's nothing like it.' And when the crews got off the water today, they were absolutely buzzing like they were."
"We got to be part of the twilight sprints, and that's a little bit abnormal for the Cascade Cup to be a part of that," Waltar added. "But when we got invited, we said, oh yes, we would love to do that. Our team was excited, and we made history because SPU rowing has never been a part of twilight sprints. That was special for the team. This is the kind of race that puts the fun back into rowing. Toward the end of the season, things can feel high-stakes. This is a fun race. I'm glad we got to do it, and we're excited for us to put our focus on the GNAC Championships in a couple of weeks."
