TACOMA – Sophomore Ryan Endresen beat the wind and everyone else on the track to win take the 400-meter hurdles, helping SPU earn fifth place as a team in the JD Shotwell men's meet on Saturday.

Ryan Endresen 2011
Endresen (Portland, Ore.) stopped the watches in 54.92 seconds, well in front of runner-up Gabriel Morales from Western Washington (56.69).

“Ryan looked great, even battling 4-meter headwinds,” Falcons coach Karl Lerum said.

Later, competing in the long jump for the first time in college, Endresen went 20 feet, 8 ½ inches (6.31 meters) to get onto the GNAC provisional qualifying list, and is within six inches of the automatic mark of 21-4 ¼ (6.51).

Seattle Pacific finished with 65 points. Western Washington won with 232, and fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Central Washington was second with 130.

Sophomore Billy Martin (Edmonds, Wash./King's HS) and senior Jace Derwin (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si HS) both came up big in the javelin.

Billy Martin 2010
Martin – just one week after a career-best throw of 173 feet, 10 inches (52.98 meters) in the Club Northwest Spring Break Open at Husky Stadium, obliterated that mark rowing by throwing more than 15 feet farther to 189-0 (57.61 meters). That gave him second place and easily elevated him from the provisional to the GNAC automatic qualifying list. With six weeks before the conference meet, it also puts him within striking distance of the NCAA provisional distance of 193-7 (59.00 meters).

Jace Derwin 2011
Derwin delivered a resounding season best of 182-5 (55.60 meters) for third place, well beyond the 171-6 (52.28) he threw at the Spring Break Open last Saturday. His PR, set last year when he first started javelin, is 190-3 (58.00).

Freshman sprinter Dustin Bratten (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline HS) made his first GNAC cut, gaining a provisional spot in the 100 meters with an 11.14 that scored sixth-place points on Saturday.
