SEATTLE – For the first time in her career, Seattle Pacific University women's cross country standout
Maya Ewing will compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wisc.
"I'm really excited to go run at nationals," Ewing said. "I feel really good about how the season has gone so far. The last two races have been confidence boosters for me and the team. I've raced against a lot of good competition recently, and was able to run competitively with them. We've been working on running even splits, which is a strategy that has been hard for me in the past. I've been able to reengage recently and run with confidence, and I can't wait to compete at nationals."
"Really happy for Maya," assistant coach
Eric Hansen said. "She's had a great season. Glad to see all of her hard work pay off. We had a little scare at regionals with the fall, but glad she's still going to get a shot to compete at the NCAA's."
Ewing has had a strong 2025 season for the Falcons. It started when she won the Green River Invitational on Sept. 13. Ewing posted a 13:42.4 over the 4,000-meter course. Two weeks later at the Mike Johnson Classic, Ewing was the top D2 finisher in the race. Ewing clocked an impressive time of 20:55.60 over the 6,000-meter course.
On Oct. 11, Ewing won the Emerald City Open. She ran the 6000-meter race with a time of 22:31.49. Ewing was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance close to home.
Postseason races saw Ewing continue to flourish. She claimed her first GNAC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 25, beating everyone with a 21:04.7. Ewing led the SPU women's team to a second-place finish at the event, the Falcons' best finish since taking third in 2019. Ewing is SPU's first GNAC Champion since Jessica Pixler in 2009.
Last weekend at the NCAA West Regionals, Ewing was in command of the race. She stumbled near the halfway mark, but recovered to finish eighth with a time of 20:51.85. It was enough to qualify for the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wsic. on the Wayne E Danehl National Cross Country Course.
