Chang Earns GNAC Athlete of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, with Seattle Pacific's Hannah Chang being named the Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

Chang was the only Falcon to hit the track at the Husky Classic over the weekend. She made the most of her opportunity. Chang ran 8.53 in the 60-meter hurdles and earned an event win. The time ranks 15th nationally and is a personal best in the event.

Chang's time tied Maliea Luquin's SPU record of 8.53, set March 11, 2016, at NCAA indoor preliminaries in Pittsburg, Kansas. It was just 0.02 seconds off the GNAC indoor record of 8.51 seconds, set by Central Washington's Mariyah Vongsaveng in 2017. It also moved Chang's name up to No. 15 on the NCAA Division II national performance list.

"We are all super excited for Hannah to get this result," head coach Karl Lerum said. "She has put in the work. I am just looking forward to her getting a couple more chances to run at the conference championships."

The Falcons are set for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday and Tuesday at the Podium in Spokane, Wash.
