PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its Women's Volleyball Weekly Awards on Monday afternoon, featuring Seattle Pacific's
Christina Lopez as the GNAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
The Falcons played their first home games of the 2026 season last weekend and earned a pair of wins on their home floor. The Falcons outlasted Western Oregon 3-2 (24-26, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13) last Thursday before sweeping aside Saint Martin's 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-23) last Saturday. Lopez was instrumental in both victories, helping the Falcons on both sides of the net.
"Christina is always a leader on our team, and she played great this past weekend. She found a ton of digs against Western Oregon when we anticipated a defensive battle and needed to rise to the challenge. Christina added several aces on the weekend while serving tough and knocking both teams out of system. Serving more aggressively and consistently was one of Christina's goals during the offseason, and her performance shows how she continues working to improve even in her senior year."
Lopez did a little of everything against the Wolves last Thursday night. She finished the match with a team-high 24 digs. She was a threat from the service line, racking up four of the team's six aces against WOU. Lopez had a strong day against the Saints last Saturday. She finished the match with 11 digs, while serving up another ace.
Lopez finished the weekend with 35 digs and five aces. Currently, she leads the Falcons with 203 digs during the 2026 season. She ranks second in the GNAC with 4.32 digs per set. Lopez trails only Tessa Onefa of Alaska Fairbanks, who has 5.02 digs per set. Lopez also leads the Falcons with 19 aces this season. She's tied for third in the conference with 19 aces.
"Christina is an intense competitor who also works hard to bring out the best in her teammates," Rhine added. "I am really grateful for the opportunity I've had to see Christina impact the team as she herself grows on and off the court."
Lopez and the Falcons are riding a three-game winning streak and play one match this weekend. They host Montana State University Billings on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. inside Royal Brougham Pavilion.
