SPU Athletics Weekly Preview: Dec. 15, 2025

SEATTLE – This week in Seattle Pacific University Athletics, women's basketball heads to Nampa, Idaho, for two games at the GNAC/RMAC Crossover, while men's basketball hosts Douglas College on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. inside Royal Brougham Pavilion.

FROM THE COACH
"Our group is looking to finish the nonconference schedule off strong," head coach Keffrey Fazio said. "We are grateful for one more opportunity to compete before the break. This week of preparation will be very intentional, as this group has so much more room for growth, which is very exciting for us as coaches. After three straight road games, we're looking forward to returning to Royal Brougham. We always appreciate the support we receive at home."
 
ABOUT THE FALCONS
  • The Falcons battled 24th-ranked Cal State East Bay last Saturday, falling to the Pioneers 57-54.
    • The Falcons shot 46.15 percent (12-for-26) from the field in the second half of Saturday's game, including a 55.56 percent (5-for-9) effort from 3-point range.
    • Julian Mora and Grant Coleman tied with a team-high 12 points, while adding three rebounds each for the Falcons.
      • Coleman was SPU's best 3-point shooter, going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
    • Trace Evans tied Theo McMillan with a team-high six rebounds for the Falcons.
      • Evans poured in nine points, while McMillan scored eight points.
  • Henry Sandberg and Theo McMillan led the Falcons to a 70-68 victory over San Francisco State last Sunday.
    • Sandberg set new career highs with 20 points and nine rebounds for the Falcons last Sunday.
      • Sandberg scored nine consecutive points for the Falcons in the final 4:14 of the game for the Falcons, including four in the final 43 seconds to secure the victory.
    • McMillan recorded his first career double-double for the Falcons with 10 points and 10 rebounds last Sunday.
    • The Falcons rebounded well against the Gators, with 16 of their 41 rebounds being offensive, leading to 12 second-chance points for SPU.
    • The Falcons got a boost from their bench against the Gators, as the reserves chipped in 20 points.

"We are looking forward to this week and playing Westminster and Colorado Mesa; those are two good opponents who will challenge us," head coach Karen Byers "I look to continue building on the four great quarters we played last week against George Fox. I will look to my starters to set the tone on the court for hard defense and securing rebounds."
 
ABOUT THE FALCONS
  • The Falcons traveled to Newberg, Ore., for a game against George Fox last Wednesday night, when they picked up a 69-50 victory over the Bruins.
    • The Falcons went 26-for-56 (46.4 percent) from the field in Wednesday's game.
    • Madison Rubino scored a game-high 19 points for the Falcons on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting performance from the field.
      • She set career highs in points and rebounds last Wednesday night.
    • Grace Mertes scored 12 points and finished the game going 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
      • Mertes set career highs in points and 3-point field goals made last Wednesday night.
    • Layne Kearns grabbed a game-high seven rebounds while scoring 10 points for the Falcons.
    • 14 different Falcons played minutes on Wednesday night.
      • The SPU reserves supplied 22 points off the bench for the Falcons.
    • Ava Mai, Jasmine Pho, and Pippa Krieger made their collegiate debut for the Falcons on Wednesday.
      • Mai scored her first career basket last Wednesday night.
