SEATTLE – This week in Seattle Pacific University Athletics, men's and women's basketball hit the road for nonconference games, and indoor track and field gets its season started at the Spokane Invitational on Saturday.

ABOUT THE FALCONS
- The Falcons return to indoor track and field action for the first time since last February's Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, where several returners had strong performances.
- Andrew Bell returns to the Falcons after a strong first season with the team.
- He won the 60-meter hurdle indoor GNAC Championship last season with a time of 8.01.
- Bell became the first SPU men's champion in the 60-meter hurdles last season.
- It was the sixth time during the 2024-25 season that Bell broke the SPU record in the 60-meter hurdles.
- Hannah Chang returns after collecting a GNAC Championship in the women's 60-meter hurdles last season.
- Chang earned the crown with an 8.72 in the event last February.
- After a successful 2025 cross country season, Maya Ewing looks to indoor season to defend her 5000-meter GNAC Championship.
- Ewing crossed the finish line with a time of 17:24.40, 14 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
- Ewing's time wiped out not only her indoor personal best (18:10.41 on the same Podium track in December), but also her overall best of 17:39.65 set outdoors in 2024 in Bellingham.
- Robert Joshua is back after becoming the first SPU men's sprinter to break seven seconds in the 60-meter dash.
- He ran a 6.95 in last February's GNAC Championship finals to finish in seventh in the race.
- Justin Brooks is back after taking fifth at last year's GNAC Championships in the 400-meter with a time of 48.87.
- Pole vaulters Mason Hrcek and Mikel Saxon return after taking fourth and sixth, respectively, at last year's GNAC Championships.
- Hrcek cleared 13 feet, 9¼ inches; Saxon got over at 13-3½.
- Tamia Cates is ready for the 2025-26 indoor season after finishing 10th in the long jump at last year's conference championships.
- The Falcons feature 10 newcomers on the men's side and three newcomers on the women's side.

"This is a great opportunity for us back on the road against two West Region teams," head coach
Keffrey Fazio said. "We're looking to finish the nonconference season off strong, so this week will be important for us to prepare to head down to the Bay Area and hopefully get two big road wins."
ABOUT THE FALCONS
- The Falcons got a small taste of GNAC play last Saturday, when a second half push from Montana State University Billings dropped the Falcons 77-70.
- The Falcons shot it well throughout Saturday's game, finishing with a 49 percent (21-for-49) effort from the field, including 10 made 3-pointers.
- Julian Mora led the Falcons with 20 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists to his totals.
- He went 5-for-8 from 3-point range on Saturday.
- Mora has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games for the Falcons.
- Henry Sandberg scored 14 points on an efficient 4-for-7 effort from the field.
- Sandberg made five free throws on Saturday, the most of any single game in his career.
- Trace Evans scored 12 points for SPU, shooting 71.4 percent from the field for the game.
- Grant Coleman made three 3-pointers on his way to scoring 11 points for the Falcons.
- Theo McMillan led the group with seven rebounds.

"I always love playing in Oregon," head coach
Karen Byers said. "Many of our athletes are from the area, and I enjoy seeing them play near their hometowns. I am looking to build on the defense that I saw in the Western Washington game and seek more transition offense. It should be a great game."
ABOUT THE FALCONS
- The Falcons played two conference games at home last week, falling to Simon Fraser and Western Washington.
- The Falcons had a shot to tie the Red Leafs in the closing seconds last Wednesday night, but it was off the mark, and their comeback fell short 57-54.
- Layne Kearns and Grace Leasure tied with a game-high 16 points for the Falcons.
- Both players added seven rebounds each for the Falcons.
- Leasure had a strong defensive game for the Falcons, blocking five shots while grabbing four steals.
- Leasure tied her career-best in blocked shots with five against Simon Fraser.
- She blocked five shots against Stanislaus State on Dec. 14, 2024.
- Grace Turley led the team with eight rebounds.
- Turley set a new career-high in rebounds with eight against the Red Leafs.
- The Falcons battled the Vikings in a physical contest last Friday night before falling 67-43.
- Kearns led the Falcons with 18 points on a 7-for-15 shooting performance from the field.
- Kearns scored a season-high 18 points for the Falcons on Friday.
- Madison Rubino scored 10 points and led the team with six rebounds.
