PORTLAND, Ore. – One has made her mark on the track. The other made hers on runway.
But neither one of them stopped there..

Distance runner
Annika Esvelt and pole vaulter
Lizzy Daugherty, who are in the Seattle Pacific record book for their athletic accomplishments, now can make a similar claim for what they've done in the classroom. On Friday, both of them were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic team for women's track and field on Friday for the fourth time.
They are two of the 12 Falcons who are part of this year's team. They also are just the third and fourth SPU athletes to earn the award four times. Scout Cai and Kate Lilly, both 2018-19-20-21, are the other four-time honorees. All four received and were able to take advantage of an extra season of eligibility related to the pandemic shutdown and restrictions in 2020 and 2021.
Among the other 10 Seattle Pacific recipients, senior
Johanna Brown collected her third All-Academic award. Senior
Nicki Yorges made it for the second time, as did juniors
Hannah Chang,
Maya Ewing,
Katelyn Flolo,
Maliyah Hicks and
Matise Mulch. Senior Emiliy Thomason and sophomores
Sophie Mock and
Anna Prussian are on for the first time.
Esvelt
Esvelt, who also won four GNAC All-Academic awards for cross country plus numerous other academic honors, has a near-perfect 3.99 grade-point average as an applied human biology major / exercise science minor. She is an eight-time track All-American (four indoors, four outdoors), with two of the indoor honors coming in March. She already has qualified for and is virtually assured of a spot in the 5000 and 10,000 meters for next month's NCAA outdoor nationals. In December, she set the school indoor 5000 record.
Daugherty
Daugherty completed her outdoor eligibility in 2024, but had one more season of indoor eligibility remaining. The grad student in data analytics with a 3.67 GPA used it this past winter. Her final meet was the GNAC Indoor Championships in February at which she broke her own school indoor record with a clearance of 12 feet, 10¼ inches. Daugherty won the conference outdoor title last spring.
Brown
Brown carries a perfect 4.0 GPA as a nursing major. She typically can be found in the 200 and 400, as well as on relays. At last weekend's CWU Wildcat Invitational in Ellensburg, she clocked a career-best 25.43 seconds in the 200. In February, Brown set an indoor personal best of 57.97 in the 400 meters.
Yorges

A nursing major with a 3.2 GPA, Ewing has had a breakout year. Following a fourth-place finish in GNAC cross country last October, she won the conference indoor 5000 meters in February and has broken the school outdoor 3000 steeplechase title twice tis month. Her current time of 10:27.61 is No. 10 in Division II and likely will get her to nationals. Flolo has a 3.96 GPA as an interior design major and has set personal-bests in four different events this year: the indoor mile, and the outdoor 1500, 5000, and 3000 steepechase.

Carrying a 3.20 GPA as a business administration major, She finished fourth at GNACs by getting over at 11 feet, 10 inches. Mock is in the politics / philosophy / economics program and has a 3.86 GPA. She is a regular in all three hurdles races: the indoor 60s, along with the outdoor 100s and 400s.
