Sarrys and Aboudou Lead Falcons at Peyton-Shotwell Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University track & field teams competed at the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational on Saturday, where standout performances from Jada Sarrys, Tawaf Aboudou, and two relay teams led a long list of strong finishes for the Falcons.

FROM THE COACH
"We had a great opportunity in Tacoma today," head coach Karl Lerum said, "Good conditions and competition for an early season meet. It's exciting to see the improvements made across event groups all afternoon."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jada Sarrys ran a 12.19 in the 100-meter dash to take second place in the event.
    • She took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.91 as well.
  • Sophie Hanay posted a 1:00.51 in the 400 meters for a fourth-place finish.
  • Ayala Pontius finished the 800 meters in second place with a time of 2:21.05.
  • Maya Ewing earned a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:44.59.
  • Hannah Chang took second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.42.
  • Pontius, Chang, Hanay, and Sarrys teamed up to win the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.28.
  • Lysandra Plant launched the javeline 122-01 for a third-place finish in the event.
  • Tawaf Aboudou ran a 10.87 in the 100-meter dash for a third-place finish in the event.
    • Aboudou also grabbed third place in the 200 meters with a 21.60.
    • Robert Joshua finished one spot behind Aboudou with a 21.82.
      • Joshua earned third in the 400 meters with a 49.41.
  • Aboudou won the long ump with a mark of 22-11.75.
  • Justin Brooks had a solid showing in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.02 for a second-place finish.
  • Andrew Bell ran well in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a 15.09 for second place.
  • Joshua, Brooks, Ben Rojas, and Aboudou won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.80.
  • Mason Hrcek won the pole vault by clearing 14-09.
BEYOND THE RESULTS 
  • Aboudou set a new program record in the 200-meter dash, beating out Roy Duncan's 20.9 second performance from 1956 after conversitions for distance and hand timing. 
UP NEXT
The Falcons will split up to take on the Stanford Invitation in Stanford, Calif., on April 3 and 4, and the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Wash., on April 3.
