ADA, Okla. –
Madison Ibale,
Makena Rietz and
Sophia Chilczuk, who led Seattle Pacific to the West Region championship, were each bestowed women's soccer All-America honors by the NCAA Division II Collegiate Conference Commissioners Association (D2CAA).
Ibale and Rietz were recognized as first-team All-Americans, the only SPU players ever to earn that honor from the D2CCA committee. Seattle Pacific is one of only two schools to place multiple players on the first team, joining Grand Valley State.
Chilczuk garnered third-team acclaim. On Wednesday, she was selected to the first-team All-America squad sponsored by the United Soccer Coaches organization.
They are the first Falcons to receive All-America honors from the Conference Commissioners Association since defender Julia DeVere in 2018.
Rietz recently received the 2021 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year award. She ranked second among conference players with 13 goals. That figure was the highest for a Falcon since 2016 when Hannah Huesers also scored 13 times.
A senior midfielder who has another year of eligibility, Rietz led the league and ranks fifth nationally with seven game-winning goals. She has 21 career goals and nine game-winners.
Rietz is a graduate of Walla Walla (Wash.) High School.
MADISON IBALE GOAL
Ibale was previously recognized as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year. She helped the SPU defense hold opponents to just 11 scores in 22 outings, an average of half-a-goal per game. They registered 11 shutouts and yielded more than a single goal just once.
The senior central defender surged forward to produce two goals of her own, including the game-winner on Sept. 16 at San Francisco State. She has three career goals and one assist.
Ibale prepped at Kentridge in Kent, Washington, the same high school that produced Chilczuk.
A senior forward, Chilczuk leads the nation with 17 assists, a single-season school record. She netted six goals to forge a 29-point total that ranked second in the GNAC.
Chilczuk played a part in nine game-winning goals, scoring two of them and setting up teammates seven times.
She completed her collegiate career as one of the finest Falcons ever. Chilczuk has 34 career assists, tying with Meredith Teague for the SPU career record. Her 36 career goals rank No. 5 in the school record book and she is third with 106 total points.
That terrific trio helped the Falcons compile a 19-2-1 record that featured a 15-game unbeaten streak. They captured the GNAC regular-season championship with a 12-1-1 league ledger and then won the conference tournament title.
The Falcons won the West Region championship with a 2-1 victory over Western Washington on Dec. 2 in Dallas, Texas. Their season ended on Dec. 4 with a 1-0 loss at Dallas Baptist in the NCAA quarterfinals.
The Conference Commissioners Association All-America teams are selected by the sports information directors from the schools throughout the country. D2CCA is a function of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
