SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team hits the road for two Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches this weekend. The action starts when the Falcons play Central Washington on Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by a midday match against Northwest Nazarene that begins at noon on Saturday.
QUOTABLE
"We have two more great opportunities this week that we are looking forward to," head coach Arby Busey said. "We go back out on the road which has been fairly kind to us this fall. We are very close to qualifying for the GNAC Tournament and are hoping we can make that happen."
LAST TIME OUT
SPU played a pair of home games last weekend. The Falcons launched 23 shots toward Western Oregon but couldn't find a way to score. SPU and WOU tied 0-0.
The Falcons honored Lauren Snedeker, Kathryn Nyone, and Landrey McCann before their match against Saint Martin's last Saturday. SPU came back from down 1-0 in the 87th minute of the match. Andie Buckley scored the equalizer in the 87th minute. Buckley's second goal of the season tied the match 1-1. A last-minute goal gave the game to the Saints, 2-1.
HANDING OUT TREATS
Taylor Krueger leads the GNAC in assists with seven this season. She's been a force for the Falcons offensive attack, adding four goals to her assist total. Krueger's 15 points are the most in the GNAC.
GOOD IN GOAL
Mercedes Cullen picked up her third shutout of the season against Western Oregon. She's made 51 saves this season and owns a save percentage of .785.
THE GNAC STANDINGS
Western Washington leads the GNAC with 26 points from an 8-0-2 conference record. The Vikings have already clinched a spot in the GNAC Tournament. The Falcons are tied with Simon Fraser for second with 19 points. Western Oregon is in fourth with 17 points.
ABOUT CENTRAL WASHINGTON
The Wildcats are in eighth in the GNAC standings. They're 0-7-3 in conference and are 1-8-4 overall. Teams score 1.69 goals against the Wildcats, while CWU has netted .38 goals per game. Jordan Bartlow leads the Wildcats with two goals this season.
ABOUT NORTHWEST NAZARENE
The Nighthawks are tied for fifth in the GNAC standings with nine points from a 3-7 conference record. NNU is allowing 1.86 goals per game while scoring .64 goals per game. Abby Blancett and Savanna Herz lead the team with two goals each.
