PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its women's volleyball weekly awards on Monday afternoon, featuring Seattle Pacific's
Christina Lopez as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week.
"Christina is one of our captains and is a competitive leader for us on and off the court," head coach
Jason Rhine said. "On a younger team with no seniors this year, Christina has stepped up even further in the ways in which she helps organize the team and lead by example."
Lopez and the Falcons extended their winning streak to four matches with two victories over the weekend. SPU swept Saint Martin's last Thursday before taking down Western Oregon 3-1 last Saturday. The current-match winning streak ties the longest of the season when the Falcons opened the year 4-0 at the Otter Invitational Sept. 5-6.
Lopez had 17 digs against the Saints and 26 digs against the Wolves. She had 43 digs over seven sets for an average of 6.1 digs per set last weekend. Lopez has 434 digs this season and is averaging 4.77 digs per set on the year. Offensively, she added 18 assists on the weekend from the libero position.
"Defensively, Christina is always impressing the coaches and her teammates with the range she can cover on the floor and the effort she puts in to her position every day in practice," Rhine said. "This past weekend she again turned that effort into a lot of digs and assists, which led our defense to two strong performances and helped us secure wins in our final two home matches."
Lopez and the Falcons finish the regular season with a trip to Alaska. SPU plays Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. PST, followed by the 2025 finale at Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PST.
