Falcons Play at GNAC Championships for the First Time

SEATTLE – Seattle Pacific University will compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships for the first time on Monday and Tuesday when the Falcons take on conference foes at the CDA Resort Golf Course in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

THE COURSE
The longtime home for the GNAC Golf Championships, the Coeur d'Alene Resort Course, provides conference players the chance to compete at a supremely unique course. The course includes the famous floating green on the 14th hole, the only man-made floating green in the U.S. The experts at Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Conde Nest Traveler agree: that this is one of the world's most memorable golf experiences anywhere.

THE COMPETITION
The Falcons square off against Montana State University Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Saint Martin's, Simon Fraser, and Western Washington. The Red Leafs enter the GNAC Championships as the favorites, ranked 23rd in the country in the clippd national rankings. SFU is ranked eighth in the NCAA West Regional Rankings.

A YEAR OF FIRSTS
The Falcons are in the middle of their inaugural season. They've set some impressive program-bests throughout their first full season.

Zoe Garcia could not miss during the second round of the True North Classic on Sept. 24, 2024. She shot a single-round program at 71. The round featured four birdies, the most in a single round by an SPU player. She scored 79, 71, and 86 for 236 and a 21st-place individual finish.

The team had one of its best performances on Oct. 12, 2024, during a dual match against Saint Martin's. Sara RhodesSophie Stamatis, and Natalie Eklund posted scores in the 70's for the Falcons. The round was the first in program history in which three players scored below 80.

Eklund entered the match as the Falcon's No. 5 player. She finished her round with a team-best 78 after shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. Stamatis and Rhodes both shot a 79 on Saturday. Stamatis went off on the back nine, finishing with a 36 during that stretch. Rhodes was consistent, shooting 39 on the front and 40 on the back.

Brigitte Fenton had a nice performance on Oct. 22, 2024, at the Flagler Fall Slam. She shot a team-best 78, a five-stroke improvement from round one. Fenton finished the tournament tied for 44th place.

Garcia put together another standout performance at the SMSU Classic on March 18. She made noise in the first round, finishing with a 75 after lighting up the back nine. Garcia's final nine holes featured three birdies, all on par fours. Garcia's score was tied for the second-best individual performance from round one. She went on to be named the GNAC Player of the Week for her performance at the SMSU Classic.

The team's best tournament wrapped up on March 24 when they competed in the Southern Colorado Classic. The Falcons had a fantastic first round, leading to a top-10 team finish at the Tournament. Garcia finished the tournament nine over par and tied for 14th in the individual standings. SPU finished ninth in the tournament.
