PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, with Seattle Pacific's
Lauren Lee being named the GNAC Women's Golf Player of the Week.
"Lauren played so well for us," head coach
Tyler Copp said. "She was extremely consistent each round and really did a good job managing the course and playing her game."
Lee turned in a solid performance at the LA Spring Kickoff at Rio Hondo Golf Club last week. She played three consistent rounds, finished 10 over par, and tied for 19th individually at the event.
Lee opened the tournament with a 76 in round one. She had three birdies during that round. In round two, she shot even par. Her second round featured three birdies, including two on the back nine, to help her finish -1 over the final nine holes. Lee wrapped up the tournament by scoring a 78 in round three.
"Anytime you play 54 holes, it takes a lot of mental toughness to handle the highs and lows of golf breaks," Copp said. "On day one, she started +6 her first six holes and proceeded to go even par her next 30 holes. She finished the tournament on a high note with a solid third round 78."
"She's not only showing her ability to be one of the best in the conference but also exponential growth from tournament to tournament," Copp added. "A hard thing to do in our sport. We are excited for her to improve specific areas of her game that she knows she's capable of. Lauren and the team are very proud of her performance last week."
Lee and the Falcons return to tournament play at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay in Alameda, Calif., at Corica Park Golf Course on Feb. 23-24.
