PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its Women's Soccer Weekly Awards on Monday afternoon, and after a pair of shutout victories last weekend,
Landry Schoennauer was named the GNAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
The Falcons opened GNAC play last weekend with a pair of successful performances. Last Thursday, the Falcons took down Saint Martin's 3-0 on the road. Then on Saturday, SPU disposed of Western Oregon 3-0 at Interbay Soccer Stadium. Schoennauer played every minute of each match in goal for the Falcons. With the help of strong back line play, Schoennauer collected back-to-back shutouts for the Falcons.
"Landry contributed to two shutouts last week," head coach
Arby Busey said. "She and her teammates played very well defensively over the two games. Whenever we needed a big save, she was there! She also was great starting our attack with her distribution."
The SPU defense kept both the Saints and Wolves quiet offensively throughout the weekend. Schoennauer faced six shots from the Saints, with just two being on goal. Schoennauer saved both and helped the Falcons pick up the win. Then on Saturday, the Wolves sent in seven shots, with Schoennauer only needing to make two saves. She finished the weekend with 13 shots faced, four saves, and zero goals allowed.
Schoennauer's record in goal climbed to 5-1-0 during the 2026 season. She's faced 56 shots, made 16 saves, and has allowed seven goals over six matches. Opponents are scoring 1.27 goals against per game, and her save percentage is .696 during that span.
In 36 matches for the Falcons, Schoennauer has made 87 saves and allowed 1.05 goals against. Her career save percentage is .777.
Schoennauer and the Falcons face two more road tests this weekend. It starts on Thursday when the Falcons play Simon Fraser at 6:00 p.m., followed by a match on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against Western Washington.
