From the moment Barb Elliott marched into the gym, she always could be counted on to bring her best gymnastics stuff.

During three highly decorated seasons in a Seattle Pacific leotard, Elliott won four national event championships and collected an incredible 15 All-American awards. As a Falcon, she owned the school records on vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, plus all-around.

During her sophomore year in 1987, Elliott was the top Division II gymnast for the entire season. She went on to win regional vault, bars, floor, and all-around titles.

But Elliott was more than just an individual star. She was part of three straight Falcon teams that made an impact at nationals. As a freshman in 1986, Elliott’s vault, beam, and floor championships helped the Falcons capture the NCAA title. Seattle Pacific was second the following winter in the U.S. Gymnastics Federation nationals, and placed third in the USGF nationals in 1988.

Elliott was the team MVP all three years she competed, and also earned the Most Inspirational award as a junior in 1988.

None of that surprised former SPU Athletic Director Keith Phillips.

“Barb was sound in her belief system and was a tremendous asset to the gymnastics team … a role model that her teammates respected,” Phillips said.
