The story of his life is a story of success. Loren Anderson earned all-state recognition in basketball and baseball at Auburn High School. The 5-foot-9 senior guard scored 31 points at state in his last high school game. College recruiters stood in line. As the star shortstop in the City-State doubleheader, Anderson was invited to the Hearst Sandlot Series in New York City, where major league scouts took notice.
At Seattle Pacific, Anderson played basketball three years for Ken Foreman, and one year for Les Habegger. He also played baseball for Dale Parker, his relentless recruiter out of high school..
In rewriting the Falcon record book, Anderson set the standard. His 18.9 career scoring average and 54-point game are among his untouched marks. His uniform number (5) is the only retired number in Falcon history.
After a year as Habegger’s student assistant and four years as an assistant at Mount Rainier High School, Anderson took a 2-17 Yelm High School program to a tournament finish in his first season.
Then, Anacortes High School beckoned. In 12 years there, Anderson’s teams won nine league championships, and participated in six district tournaments and four state tournaments. He finished his coaching career at Ferndale High School.
