    Lifetime Achievement

Before there was a Booster Club, there was George Cottrill. Before he was asked, he contributed funds. And hours before a newspaper arrived on his doorstep, he knew the details of the big road game from the previous night.

Such was his devotion to Falcon athletics.

For someone who never wore a whistle around his neck or pulled on a jersey, George was instrumental in carving out the Seattle Pacific tradition of sporting success. It was he who helped assure that the school’s track teams raised the necessary funds for those first trips to the national championships and prestigious meets such as the Drake Relays.

Later, George was a co-founder of the Falcon Club. And as an executive at Boeing, he helped SPU athletes obtain summer jobs with the company.

Throughout his life, George, along with wife Imogene, was a fervent follower of the various teams. Sometimes, he traveled out of state for games. And when he couldn’t make it, he didn’t hesitate to phone a coach at the hotel.

Failing health forced him to miss the third Falcon Legends induction ceremony in 2005; he passed away on Feb. 20, 2005. In recognition of his prominent role as a bright, generous and ever-faithful servant to Seattle Pacific athletics, George becomes the third Lifetime Achievement Award winner in the Falcon Legends Hall of Fame.
