Roy Glancy graduated from Seattle Pacific High School in 1929, married classmate Ruth Rosser, and began a 33-year career in the U.S. Post Office. But the “job” that he enjoyed the most was supporting Seattle Pacific sports and its athletes.

When Seattle Pacific’s track and field team had home meets at Queen Anne Bowl in the 1950s and 60s, “Roy was there for every meet, assisting where and when needed – and always heading up the timing crew,” head coach Ken Foreman remembered.

In 1954, when the team traveled to Iowa for the Drake Relays, Glancy helped with fundraising, and then took off work to attend the meet himself. To save on return-trip expenses, he and Foreman each drove new Buicks to Seattle, where the cars would be sold.

For many years, Glancy also was a regular driver for coach Les Habegger’s basketball teams, logging thousands of miles on the family cars to games in Oregon and California, across Washington state, and into Canada.

Glancy had a positive spirit and caring heart. It wasn’t unusual for him to invite players into his home to play pool or watch TV, or to help them secure part-time jobs in the Post Office.

His support and encouragement to scores of Seattle Pacific athletes will long be remembered, making him a worthy member of the Falcon Legends Hall of Fame.
