Seattle Pacific has had its share of two-sport standouts. But in terms of team athletics, no female can match the feats of Tosca Lindberg.

For a run of four years from August 1989 to March 1993, Lindberg was an imposing force in both volleyball and basketball.

Standing six feet tall with broad shoulders, Lindbergh possessed the physical capacity to carry a team, and the charisma to lead it. Her ferocious fall play at the net resulted in blocking totals that have never been rivaled since her graduation. She was the first Falcon to earn a volleyball conference Player of the Year honor.

With her two seasons virtually overlapping, mere hours separated her final volleyball match and the donning of her basketball attire. Lindberg ranks among SPU’s career scoring leaders, but her tireless tracking of missed shots enabled her to secure both the season and career rebounding records that still stand.

A remarkable competitor on the court, Lindberg loved to have fun with her teammates off it. Although much honored (six all-conference and three academic all-region awards in the two sports combined), she kept things in perspective, and was chosen the state’s 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year. After teaching in Guam for nearly 10 years, Lindberg now lives in Scottsville, N.Y., with her adopted daughter, Rebecca.
