As a student, alumnus (’52), trustee and overall Falcon fan, Bud McDole always has been passionate about athletics at Seattle Pacific. This passion stems from is belief that Falcon athletics are a powerful example of the character-building values that SPU embraces, and a means of positive publicity for the school.

Over the years, Falcon athletics have been the beneficiary of Bud’s leadership skills and persuasive influence. After a stint in the military and several out-of-state assignments with IBM, Bud, wife Lucy and their family returned to Seattle in 1969. Bud soon was elected president of the Falcon Booster Club, where he “took the bull by the horns,” as Hall of Fame basketball coach Les Habegger recalls.

What followed were “Falcon Updates” into people’s homes, increases in scholarship contributions, and a new energy for Seattle Pacific sports.

In 1972, Bud’s advocacy for athletics led to his election to the Board of Trustees, which charged him with personally helping to promote athletics at SPU. He responded repeatedly throughout his 23-year tenure (13 as chair), most notably through his support of the 1993 renovation of Brougham Pavilion that added 1,400 seats and created new homes for gymnastics and crew.

In all his varied associations with Seattle Pacific, Bud McDole has helped the Falcons fly ever higher.
